In a move that many did not see coming, the Indianapolis Colts have named Jeff Saturday the Interim Head Coach, per owner Jim Irsay.
Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay announced on Twitter that Frank Reich has been fired as the head coach after a putrid 3-5-1 start and an overall 40-33-1 record.
Fully vaccinated players will be required to get tested for COVID-19 weekly instead of every 14 days as part of the revised protocols for the regular season agreed upon by the NFL and NFLPA.
The weekly testing applies also for fully vaccinated Tier 1 and 2 staff. There’s an option for a second test for those who want it, according to a memo sent to clubs and obtained by The Associated Press on Monday.
Fully vaccinated individuals do not need to wait for results prior to entering a team’s facility. Each club must conduct its testing over a three-day period.
Unvaccinated players will continue to be tested daily.
Saturday’s Maryland-Ohio State game, which was canceled and won’t be made up. Maryland paused all team activities on Wednesday after eight players have tested positive for the virus over the past week.
“There is nothing more important than the health and well-being of our student-athletes, coaches and staff,” Maryland athletic director Damon Evans said in a statement. “We realize that this news is disappointing to all of the Maryland fans out there who were looking forward to the Terps taking on an outstanding Ohio State team, but the responsible thing for us to do is pause football activities, given the number of positive cases currently in our program.”
The University of Wisconsin has canceled Saturday’s home game against Purdue.
It’s the second straight game the 10th-ranked Badgers have called off as COVID-19 cases within their team continue to rise. Wisconsin school leaders said on Tuesday that three more players and two additional staffers have tested positive since Saturday, bringing the program’s total number of active cases to 27.
